American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons: Textbook on CD-ROM

As a value-added extra, this textbook publisher wanted to include a CD-ROM that duplicated the text's contents in a searchable, electronic format for students' use. But because it was a last-minute decision, they barely had a budget for it and they needed the CD master in the disk duplicator's hands in four days.

Seneca was quickly provided with the book's final QuarkXPress files and all fonts and artwork. We created PDFs for each chapter, the Table of Contents, the index and the glossary. We quickly produced section and sub-section bookmarks for each chapter PDF with a third-party plug-in, and manually linked the listings in the Table of Contents to their respective chapters.

With no time for developing an interface for the CD, we used the client's Photoshop file of the textbook cover to quickly customize a PDF home page (upper left). From there, students could Search the CD's contents, or open the Table of Contents (upper right) which would link them to the book chapters (bottom). The final CD master was handed over by the client's deadline.
