Joyce Foundation Web Site
Based in Chicago, the Joyce Foundation is one of the nation's largest grantmaking institutions. Seneca Design has been their web site developer of choice since they first established an on-line presence in 1998. The first few screen shots pictured here show the end results of a major project for us: A total site redesign (over 800 pages), a project in the works for over a year. (A sample page from their original site, also developed by Seneca, is included at the bottom of the page.) We worked closely with the foundation's print design firm in developing a new look and feel for the Joyce site that would be "web-friendly." Per the client's request, the site maintained its frame-based structure from before, but we coded it to be user-friendlier. Its partially liquid design adapts to any size monitor, while the CSS keeps the design on-target. Other enhancements to the new site include an advanced Site Search, breadcrumb navigation, a dynamic home page, frame binding, variable linking and search engine optimization. Our development tool for this project was based on Adobe GoLive, which due to this program's templates, components and "Smart Objects" features cut production time by 50% from our original estimate. The site is co-maintained by Seneca and Joyce staff. See the live site: (The final screen shot shows a page from the original Joyce Foundation web site, developed by Seneca in 1998.) |
