LobsterGram - Valentine's Larry

Seneca Design was hired by LobsterGram in 1998 to redesign their site, and since then their web sales have skyrocketed, often racking up over 5 million hits in a single month. (Seneca also hosts the livelob.com site so we know about the server hits!)

LobsterGram had a very successful catalog operation selling live lobsters throughout the U.S., but their original Web site was difficult to use and had no shopping cart. Users had to memorize the item numbers and enter them into a form that was e-mailed to LobsterGram's AOL address; then a CSR would call them to complete the sale.

We redesigned their site from the ground up with all-new photography repurposed from their catalog and new animations, keeping the owner's goal of a "fast-loading, fun site" in mind. We added a secure, user-friendly shopping cart that increased their web sales 30-fold while greatly reducing the load on their in-house sales staff. We trained select members of their staff so they could maintain and update the site themselves. And by breaking this project into phases, we were able to keep our charges in synch with their cash flow.
