What's Happening at Seneca these days . . .

>> Adobe introduced some great new features for the production of EPUBS in InDesign CS5.5. My new lynda.com title, InDesign CS5.5 to EPUB, Kindle, and IPad demonstrates how these changes might take a little pain out of your InDesign to EPUB workflow. If you haven't upgraded to CS5.5 don't dispair! I've recorded versions of this popular title for InDesign CS5 and CS4, too. Check out the tutorials and let me know what you think!

>> My InDesign to EPUB training syllabus is available upon request for your viewing and training pleasure. I've taken my EPUB studies and condensed it into a customizable course. Give me a call or Request a Quote to learn about your training options.

>> I've received a link to a recording of From Adobe® InDesign® to the Apple iBookstore, the webinar I conducted for a series called Ask a CS Pro. During this eSeminar I briefly explain how to export InDesign documents to EPUB, add the EPUB file to the iBooks app on an iPad for previewing and testing, and sell your EPUB publication on the iBookstore. You don't need a login to view the recording-- enter your name in the Guest text field.

>>My latest InCopy project, InDesign CS5: Collaborative Workflows with InCopy CS5, could help you successfully integrate InCopy and InDesign into your production workflow. You'll find over seven hours of sanity-saving videos in this lynda.com title which cover the essentials of the workflow. Many undocumented tips and workarounds are included in each lesson too. You can see a few of the videos for free on-line at lynda.com; but to see the rest of the videos and to download the sample files I use, you'll need to join up (for as little as $25 for a one-month subscription).

>> My recently updated lynda.com title, Social Media Marketing with Facebook and Twitter is a fan favorite on our Social Media Facebook page. Check out the valuable feedback from people who've applied what they've learned in this 4.5 hour tutorial to their own marketing efforts.

>> Inspired by research for my tutorial, Acrobat 9 Pro Tips and Tricks, I teamed with lynda.com again to record Acrobat 10 Essential Training. It includes nine hours of videos that cover many popular topics- automation, security, preflighting/print production, interactivity, commenting & review and more. Of course, you'll find tutorials about popular topics such as creating PDFs from within other programs and digitally signing files too.

>> Not surprisingly, we're doing a lot of online training for clients. In this economy, travel budgets are incredibly restricted. But companies are being forced to do more with less staff, so of course, they need to ramp up people's skills. That's why a lot of out-of-town clients are opting for our "virtual classroom" instead of flying me or one of my trainers out there for a few days. It's convenient, flexible, and affordable; whether it's a one-on-one tutorial or doing a 2-day class for forty people at once. Email our training coordinator, Sherri Austin, to find out more or even try it out for yourself!

>> How does InCopy work with InDesign?InCopy CS5 White paper Adobe asked me to write their whitepaper, Adobe InCopy CS5 and InDesign CS5 Collaborative Editorial Workflow, (a 19-page PDF) they make available to prospective customers on their main InCopy product page. It includes lots of screenshots of an actual publication going through the steps in the workflow so you and your colleagues can get a good sense if it'll work in your situation. (If your editors give you Word files to flow into the layout, and then mark-up paper proofs with their changes, it's definitely worth considering.) You may download the InCopy CS4 PDF (5MB) directly from my InCopySecrets.com blog: Adobe InCopy CS4 Hands-On Guide.

>> Miscellaneous designgeek-y projects: I'm traveling the country conducting InDesign seminars for InDesignSecretsLive! I'm working on a major update to our website that will incorporate more CS5 resources into the DesignGeek section.
